The Ghana Cooperative Pharmacists Credit Union Limited (GCPCUL) recently invested in its future by hosting a comprehensive two-day workshop for its newly elected Board of Directors and Committees. This capacity-building event took place from 1st-2nd August at the union’s Accra headquarters.

Fresh Leadership, Fresh Vision

On July 11, 2024, GCPCUL members elected a new team to guide the organization for the next four years. These officers comprised 7 Board of Directors, 3 Loans Committee members and 3 Supervisory Committee members.

These dedicated individuals have already taken up their roles, bringing fresh energy and perspectives to GCPCUL’s operations.

Building Competence, Ensuring Success

The workshop aimed to equip these leaders with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in their positions. Expert facilitators from various branches of the credit union movement led the sessions. They included Mr. Desmond Kuranchie (CUA officer), Mrs. Abigail Twumasi (Tema chapter regional manager), and Mr. Richmond Boko (Tema chapter field officer).

Dr. Paul Owusu Donkor, the new BOD chairman, set an inspiring tone for the event. He praised his team’s early dedication and encouraged them to maintain their enthusiasm throughout their tenure.

Key Topics Covered

The workshop delved into essential areas of credit union management. These included:
– Legal framework of cooperatives
– Roles and responsibilities of board and committee members
– Interpreting financial statements
– Ghana’s financial landscape

Using a mix of lectures and hands-on exercises, facilitators ensured participants gained both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

Investing in the Future

This training demonstrates GCPCUL’s commitment to good governance and effective leadership. By empowering its new officers with the tools they need, GCPCUL aims to enhance its service to members and strengthen its position in Ghana’s financial sector.
