Inception and Evolution
The journey of GCPCUL commenced in 1983 when the idea of embracing the credit union concept was first conceived. By May 29, 1985, this vision became a reality as we were officially registered as the ‘Ghana Co-operative Pharmaceuticals Credit Union Ltd.’ At that time, our association was limited exclusively to Pharmacists who were members of the Ghana Co-operative Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
Fast forward to 1997, we achieved autonomy from our parent organization, GCPL. In 1998, during our Annual General Meeting, we officially adopted the name ‘Ghana Co-operative Pharmacists’ Credit Union Limited.’ This milestone marked the expansion of our common bond to encompass all registered Pharmacists in the country.
The journey didn’t stop there. We further broadened our common bond at our 23rd Annual General Meeting on Thursday, March 12, 2009, held at the GNAT Hall in Accra. It now includes non-Pharmacists working with pharmacy-related institutions and others who meet our pre-qualification criteria.
